Home>For Parents and Teachers
This website was created by me, Mrs. Timm, solely for the use by my elementary computer lab students. Due to lack of funding for technology software at public schools in Los Angeles and elsewhere, I looked to the Internet for games and activities that would reinforce the elementary school state and district standards. All websites and activities on the Hotlist pages were chosen by me, personally, to fit the following criteria: 1. They are educational (no video games or shoot-em ups here). 2. They reinforce California State Standards for Education for each grade level. 3. They are age-appropriate (targeted mainly to English as a Second Language students). 4. They have a minimum of advertising. Unfortunately, I had to settle for some advertising because that is what keeps many of these websites afloat. It is important to teach your children or students how to avoid the advertising on these sites and the pitfalls of clicking on the wrong thing (endless pop-ups). 5. They are fun! Believe me, keeping 30 plus elementary-age children engaged for an hour is difficult enough without boring activities and dull formats. Teachers, check out my Open Court Activities pages. These were created as activities to be done in the computer lab over the course of 4-6 weeks (once a week in the lab and possibly some outside work). They are correlated with units in SRA's Open Court Reading series. I am in no way affiliated with SRA or Open Court, but created these activities to be enrichment for the units. The Themes pages were a response to colleagues requests for web resources on a specific topic. I am always adding pages and you can feel free to request a page and I will consider granting your request if it is appropriate or within my power. The Web Resources page contains all my favorite research and online help resources. I use them myself, daily! I hope you enjoy and find this website useful. Feel free to drop me a line with any feedback or concerns. |
